Architect Levon Vardanyan is a renowned Armenian architect recognised for his thoughtful integration of contemporary design into historic urban contexts. His creative philosophy centres on the interaction between environment and object, emphasising that every new structure must respect and enrich the existing architectural and cultural setting. His work has become a signature of refined urban living in Yerevan.
Architect's Works
Levon Vardanyan's portfolio includes notable projects beloved by Yerevan residents. A prominent example is the "Moskovsky Passage" multifunctional residential complex, admired for its elegant arched porticos decorated with stylised pomegranate capitals and intricate façade reliefs. Another highlight is the "Moscow House" cultural and business centre, whose Palladian window arcade complements the historic Yerevan City Hall and the iconic Wine Factory, creating harmony between new and old city landmarks.
In his recent project at Demirchyan Street, Vardanyan reinterprets traditional Armenian architectural motifs—particularly the arch and colonnade—blending expressive stone forms with light-filled, rhythmic arcades that reflect Yerevan's unique urban identity.
Khachkar and Arches
A defining feature of Levon Vardanyan's architectural language is his revival of traditional Armenian elements such as arches and khachkar-inspired reliefs. In his latest design, the street-facing portico features symbolic stone carvings of life trees with grapes and pomegranates, crafted in the spirit of medieval khachkars (cross-stones). These ornamental details not only honour Armenia's cultural heritage but also bring poetic storytelling into modern urban life, merging past and present through timeless stone artistry.
